“I just can’t find the motivation to…” I hear this phrase all the time so i figured I would share some tips with you that have personally helped me. First off, it is important that you understand the definition of motivation and a few other words.
Motivation: the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way; or the general desire or willingness of someone to do something
Inspiration: the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.
Ambition: a strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work.
As you can see, all three words are similar but different and they do work together. A lot of people consider themselves “ambitious” because they want to be successful, but they can’t seem to find the motivation to start (or stick with) anything mainly because they have not found the correct source of inspiration (see what I did there.)
If this is you, then please re-read the definitions above and understand that you are not ambitious, you are just a dreamer. This does not mean you can not be, but it depends on how badly you really want something.
I am sure you have looked at people before and thought to yourself, how can they be so motivated all the time, it’s impossible.
Well, it is very possible and not by accident. You must understand that motivation is not a random feeling that you get every once in a while completely by chance.
When you get that feeling, it is because something inspired your inner ambition and gave you a burst of motivation. The key is to learn how to trigger that motivation and cultivate it.
Creating, or even just re-igniting motivation, is a skill. Knowing how to influence your own thought process and mood seems unrealistic to some, yet it is very possible. I have been using the advice in this article for many years and it has helped tremendously.
So how do you create this motivation? It all has to do with INPUT. Everything that goes into your head will affect you.
Be aware or your emotions and mindset always. When you feel down and out, understand why. When you get the feeling of motivation and the burst of energy to accomplish a task, understand why.
Think about what you are doing, listening to, the current situation and influencing factors of all kinds. This is how you develop a better understand of yourself and your mind. there are many different avenues of influence to consider.
Video, music, books, people, situations, etc. As you become more aware of the negative influences, get rid of them. Bad relationship… get rid of that person. Negative impact from music… stop listening to that music. Same for video and anything else that acts as an input of emotion.
Then become more aware of the influences that spark your motivation. If you do not know, go out and discover them.
I can not speak for you because not everyone is affected the same. Personally, I am very particular with my daily input.
Motivational speakers, books, people in my life, business that I get into all has to be positive in nature. Don’t get me wrong, you cannot control every single situation, but most you can.
I listen to ebooks every morning when I drive in. When I feel myself losing motivation I seek out motivational videos on youtube because they get me fired up. When I listen to music, if the song begins to make me feel anything but positive, I turn it off immediately.
I barely understand Spanish, but I listen to a lot of Spanish music because the beats are awesome and when I don’t know what they are saying it allows me to clear my mind and think positively.
My major influencers are as follows:
- Eric Thomas
- Simon Sinek
- Gary V
- Tony Robbins
Also just do a random search for motivational videos on youtube and you will find countless videos that will motivate.
